Hawaiian Telcom Unveils "HT Spots" Powered By Skywave
More Than 100 Free WiFi Access Points Statewide for HT HSI Subscribers

Hawaiian Telcom High Speed Internet (HSI) subscribers now have free WiFi access to more than 100 HT Spots throughout the state. HT Spots, which are powered by local WiFi company Skywave, include Ala Moana Center, Restaurant Row, the downtown business district and all Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Hawaii locations.

"Mobility is a highly desired element for our high speed customers," said Michael Fry, Senior Internet Product Manager. "This enhancement provides them with the freedom and flexibility to connect to the Internet when they’re out on the go. It also increases the value of our service and strengthens customer loyalty."

HT Spots powered by Skywave, are primarily in downtown Honolulu and Waikiki but also include Kailua, Hawaii Kai, Manoa, Ewa Beach and Pearl City on Oahu, Kapaa on Kauai, Kona and Hilo on the Big Island, and Kahului on Maui. Joint plans to further expand locations are in progress. For a complete list of HT Spot locations, please visit our page or www.skywavebroadband.net.

"HT Spots are the perfect complement to Hawaiian Telcom’s already robust high speed offering. Every Hawaiian Telcom customer, from working professionals to students, can take advantage of Skywave’s existing and future WiFi locations to find a convenient location to wirelessly surf the ‘Net" said Joshua Beil, Skywave co-founder. Skywave’s other co-founder Matthew Ganote added, "We have integrated seamlessly with Hawaiian Telcom so that their customers can use their existing email and password to access our WiFi network."

To celebrate the launch of HT Spots, visit any Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf location in Hawaii, ask for the "Hawaiian Telcom special" and receive a small hot coffee of the day for just a dollar. This offer is good today (Sept. 26) only.
Last month Hawaiian Telcom HSI launched increased speeds of up to 11 Mbps, the fastest in the state. Service is available in Metro Honolulu, East Honolulu, Ewa, Mililani, Waipahu and Wahiawa on Oahu, in Hilo on the Big Island and in Makawao on Maui. Expansion plans are in progress. Cost is $39.99 a month for 7 Mbps and $49.99 for 11 Mbps when paired with Hawaiian Telcom landline service. Additional discounts are available with myChoice bundles. Business class services are also available. For more information, please call 643-0805 (residential) or 643-0841 (business).

All speeds reflect initial connection speeds between the computer and Hawaiian Telcom’s central office. Actual throughput speeds will vary based on numerous factors, including network and Internet congestion and the speed of the Web sites visited on the Internet.
