Hawaiian Telcom to Offer Converged Landline, Mobile and PC Networking.

Call Choicesm Gives Wireless Subscribers Advanced Features and Helps Conserve Minutes of Use. Hawaiian Telcom will pioneer the convergence of landline, wireless and PC networking in Hawaii with the planned introduction of unique advanced services that give wireless subscribers greater control over their service while conserving their monthly minutes of use, the company announced today. Hawaiian Telcom CEO Mike Ruley is scheduled to discuss details of the announcement in a luncheon speech today to the Hawaii Society of Corporate Planners.

The suite of features, known as Call ChoiceSM, includes:

• The ability for users to listen to voice messages in real time as the message is being left on the user’s cell phone. The user can then choose whether or not to interrupt the message and take the call.
• The ability for users to instantly transfer a live cell phone call to a home or office phone, thus conserving monthly minutes of use.
• The ability for customers to automatically transfer cell phone calls to a designated landline when their mobile phone is turned off or is outside of a coverage area.

“By allowing our customers to seamlessly bridge across multiple networks, our subscribers gain high-value services without having to sacrifice the reliability, convenience and security of their landline phone,” Hawaiian Telcom CEO Mike Ruley said before the speech.

FREE DESKTOP CALL-MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

Hawaiian Telcom also will give Call Choice subscribers free desktop software for managing mobile and landline calls from the desktop of an Internet-connected PC. The software will let customers use their PC to preview calls and screen messages in real time and to easily shift live calls from their home phone to another device, such as their cell phone.

“By delivering advanced applications that enhance traditional phone calls, HawaiianTelcom is responding to our customers’ demand for real-world solutions to manage calls through a powerful, but user-friendly desktop application,” Ruley said.

Call Choice subscribers also can use the software to listen to voicemail as well as store and e-mail voice messages from the desktop. To enhance customer privacy, Hawaiian Telcom’s subscribers also can block telemarketer calls and monitor landline calls on their mobile phones.

Hawaiian Telcom expects to begin market trials of Call Choice starting in mid-October. A full commercial roll-out is expected in the first quarter of 2006. The service will be available on a monthly subscription basis.
