Walter A. Dods, Jr. - Chairman of the Board
Walter A. Dods Jr. is chairman of the board, First Hawaiian Bank, a subsidiary of BancWest Corporation, a $74-billion bank holding company based in Honolulu, Hawaii. He retired as chief executive officer of BancWest on December 31, 2004. BancWest's major subsidiaries are First Hawaiian Bank in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan; and Bank of the West in California and 15 other Western and Midwestern states. BancWest is a wholly owned subsidiary of BNP Paribas.
Past bank positions included chief executive officer and president. He is also a trustee for the Estate of Samuel Mills Damon.
In addition to BancWest Corporation, First Hawaiian Bank and Bank of the West, Mr. Dods serves on the boards of the following Hawaii businesses: Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., and subsidiary Matson Navigation Company, Inc.; First Insurance Company of Hawaii, Ltd.; Grace Pacific Corporation; Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc.; Mid Pac Petroleum, LLC; Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Co., Ltd.; Servco Pacific, Inc.; and Hawaiian Telcom.
He is involved with numerous community and civic organizations. He currently serves as trustee with The Contemporary Museum and the Japan-America Institute of Management Science (JAIMS). He also serves on the board of governors for Chaminade University of Honolulu, and on the board of advisors for Catholic Charities Hawaii and the University of Hawaii School of Social Work.
Mr. Dods graduated from St. Louis High School, Honolulu, and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii.
