Ron Mizutani Joins Hawaiian Telcom as Vice President of Corporate Communications
Veteran TV News Anchor to Lead Company’s Communications Team

Hawaiian Telcom, the state’s largest telecommunications provider, announced today that local news anchor Ron Mizutani is joining the company as vice president of corporate communications with responsibility for the firm’s organizational communications and media relations.

Mizutani is well known and respected as a reporter and anchor with Hawaii’s Fox affiliate and top-rated KHON-2 News where over the years he built a reputation for translating local and national news and the workings of business and government into easily understandable reports for the public.

"I am very pleased to have someone of Ron’s caliber leading our communications team," said Mike Ruley, Hawaiian Telcom’s chief executive officer. "With more than 20 years working as a reporter and television news anchor covering Hawaii, Ron is a recognized leader in journalism. His experience in high-profile cases, complex financial transactions and the challenging issues that face our community make him an excellent choice to help tell our company’s story.”

Mizutani will join Hawaiian Telcom’s management team effective Aug. 20. Hawaiian Telcom’s Chief Marketing Officer Michael McHale said Mizutani will play an essential part in helping execute the company’s strategic vision by developing a firm communications foundation for the company’s future growth and financial success.

“Ron is at home in all aspects of today’s communications media and the press, with considerable knowledge of government and the nonprofit field as well,” McHale said.

“I am honored to be joining Hawaiian Telcom and its experienced team of professionals in this next phase of its evolution and growth,” Mizutani said. “This is an exciting time in the company’s history, it’s a great responsibility, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

Mizutani joined KHON in 1985 and co-anchored Hawaii’s No. 1 evening newscast from 1996 to 2000. After a stint as sports director, Mizutani returned to the anchor desk in 2003, co-anchoring the state’s top 5 p.m. newscast. He is a 1983 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
