Hawaiian Telcom offers $5 Corded Phone for Emergency Kits - Company Stores Sell Out Quickly; More Supplies on Order
HONOLULU – As many Hawaii residents learned after the earthquake on Oct. 15, a basic corded phone can provide priceless connectivity when the lights go out. To help island residents be prepared, Hawaiian Telcom stores are offering Slimline cord phones for just $5.
The offer for this high-quality device, which normally sells for $24.95, was made in newspaper advertisements this week.
“We knew there was a lot of interest in basic corded phones after the earthquake, but demand has been even greater than we anticipated,” said Mike McHale, Hawaiian Telcom Senior Vice President. “We ordered every device our supplier had in stock and sold 1,500 units in less than four days. As of this morning, all the stores have sold out except our Pearlridge location. We do have more phones coming in and will be glad to take the names and numbers of customers who want to take advantage of this community service.”
Hawaiian Telcom’s statewide network infrastructure continued to function after the earthquake and aftershocks on Oct. 15 as well as the power outages that followed.
OFFER TERMS
The Slimline phone operates on the low voltage supplied by Hawaiian Telcom’s network. The phone does not rely on commercial power. The offer is good through Nov. 18 or while supplies last. There is a limit of one phone per customer.
