HAWAIIAN TELCOM’S KAHULUI BASE YARD RELOCATING

It has been a fixture in the Kahului business district for more than 40 years but soon Hawaiian Telcom crews on Maui will have a new home. The company is moving its Kahului base yard operations from Alamaha Street to nearby Lalo Place.

“We are still here, Maui – we’re less than a block away,” said Val Ogata, Maui Island Manager. “This base yard has been a landmark in Kahului for decades. At one time, residents used to pay their phone bills here.”
The Alamaha Street yard has been home to the company’s fleet, warehouse, construction and field operations since 1965. The company’s current lease expires on Dec. 31. Several employees have relocated to the company’s Wailuku office while the warehouse facility has moved to Eha Place in Wailuku. The rest of the crews will move to the Lalo Place facility. Ogata expects the new yard to be full functioning by Jan. 10.

“Our crews will miss the old yard because they’ve called it home for so many years. Some of our current employees’ parents even worked out of this lot,” said Ogata. “We’re moving but we’ll still provide our same outstanding customer service.”
