Hawaiian Telcom Donates $50,000 to American Red Cross for Katrina Aid

HONOLULU – Hawaiian Telcom has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. About $25,000 was donated directly by Hawaiian Telcom employees; the company matched the donations, contributing the other half.

“Our employees are exceedingly generous, always willing to help those in need,” said Harvey Plummer, Hawaiian Telcom senior vice president – engineering and operations.

"We are pleased and humbled by the generosity of Hawaii's people towards the victims of the recent hurricanes. We are especially grateful to Hawaiian Telcom and its employees for their wonderful contribution to the cause of humanity," said Coralie Chun Matayoshi, CEO for the American Red Cross – Hawaii Chapter.

In addition, Hawaiian Telcom employee Wayne Porter recently returned from assisting with recovery efforts in Waveland, Mississippi. He and volunteers from his church spent a week in Waveland, cutting down fallen trees and dismantling damaged homes.
